Challenges make changes
Fluorescent materials used in diagnostics are acknowledged for their importance with the changes in technological
landscape such as the expansion of tailored medical services, new target-delivery medicines,
and the proliferation of different forms of epidemic diseases.
In Korea, while both the R&D on diagnostics and the market have grown explosively over the last few years,
R&D on source materials has been overlooked.
There may be a number of reasons such as the difficulty
in avoiding global players’ patent portfolios that have been established over the past decades,
relatively narrow and conservative market characteristics, and the tendency to get obsessed with short-term outcomes.
Since 2014, SFC has been aggressively engaging in R&D on source materials, establishing a strategy and a vision
based on thorough analysis and acute perception. As a result, our achievements have been adopted in several mass-produced
molecular diagnostic kits such as COVID-19 PCR kits, earning a market recognition and consolidating its position
as a key driver for continuous growth of SFC.
SFC will do its best to be a part of global players, beyond the first in Korea, by continuously bolstering R&D
and manufacturing capabilities, as well as enhancing network with partners in more diverse fields including
diagnostics and pharmaceutical industries.
